How to Get Dial-Up Networking
To Remember Your Password

When you double-click on the Humboldt Internet icon, you'll see this dialog box asking for your user name and password. You'll also see a box marked Save Password. Check this box -- Windows will remember your password after the first time you successfully connect.

If the Save Password box is greyed out and unclickable, here's how to light it up. This trick works most of the time, and sometimes it stops working, i.e. one day the box is suddenly greyed out again. If this doesn't work for you, or if it stops working, you might want to call Microsoft's technical support hotline at 1-800-426-9400.

You will need your Windows 95 CD or floppy disks.
Please have them handy before continuing.

Go into My Computer and open up the Control Panel folder.

Double-click on Network.

You'll see the Network Configuration panel pop up.

Click on Add.

Select Client and click the Add button.

You'll see a list of manufacturers on the left. Select Microsoft.

You'll see a list of products on the right. Select Client for Microsoft Networks.

Click OK

There will be a pause of several seconds and then you'll be back at the Network Configuration Panel.

The "Client for Microsoft Networks" should appear at the top of the list in the upper window.

There's a white slot labeled Primary Network Logon.
Click on the black triangle on the right of that slot to bring up a list of logon types.
Select Windows Logon.

At the top of the window, click on the tab labeled Identification.

In the slot labeled Computer Name, enter Computer.

In the slot labeled Workgroup, enter Workgroup.

For Computer Description, enter My Computer.

Now click on the OK button at the bottom of the Network Configuration panel.

You'll probably be asked for your Windows 95 CD or for a bunch of floppy disks. Give it the disks as it asks for them. When you're finished, you'll be asked if you want to restart your computer. Answer YES.

When your computer restarts, the Save Password box should be available. Check the Save Password box to have Windows remember your password after it successfully logs on.
