This article describes how to configure Outlook Express to read Internet Mail.

To configure Outlook Express to read Internet Mail, follow these steps:

  1. In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu.

  2. In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click Add, and then click Mail.

  3. In the Display Name box, type the name you want others to see when You send a message, and then click Next.

  4. In the E-mail Address box, type the e-mail address for the account you are using (for example, "username@humboldt1.com"), and then click Next.

  5. Under E-mail Server Names, select POP3 as the appropriate incoming mail server type, and then type mail.humboldt1.com as the names of your incoming and outgoing mail servers. Click Next.

  6. Type your login name and password in the POP Account Name and Password boxes.

  7. In the Internet Mail Account Name box, type a name to identify the mail account you are configuring (Humboldt Internet). This is known as the "friendly" name for the account. Click Next.

  8. Click "Use my phone line to connect." Then click "Use an existing dial-up connection," and select the name for your Dial-Up Networking connection in the list (Humboldt Internet), and then click Next.

  9. Click "Connect using my local area network (LAN)" or "I will establish my Internet connection manually," if you do not want to be prompted to dial a connection when opening Outlook Express.

  10. Click Finish.

  11. To avoid having to re-connect to the Internet after checking your email you can disable the auto-disconnect feature of Outlook Express: Click Tools, Options, and on the Connection tab remove the check mark next to "Hang up after sending and receiving".
