Getting started with Outlook Express takes just two simple steps.
The instructions below explain how to configure Outlook Express using the Internet Connection Wizard.
There are several ways to open Outlook Express. Choose the one that matches how you like to work:
When you launch Outlook Express for the first time, the Internet Connection Wizard automatically appears and guides you through the process of setting up Outlook Express. This step-by-step wizard prompts you for your basic Internet-access account infor
mation and clearly explains all setup options along the way. The following instructions assume you have a modem that connects to the internet using a phone line. If you are on a local areawide network and need help getting connected, call Technical Suppor

When you launch Outlook Express, the Internet Connection Wizard will appear if you have never used Outlook Express before. (If you have used Outlook Express before, you can access the Internet Connection Wizard by going to the Start button and selectin
g Programs/Internet Explorer/Connection Wizard.)
1. Setup an Existing Internet Account |
Select the option that says I have an existing Internet account through my phone line. This option assumes you have already created and configured your Humboldt Internet dialup connection using our Win-95/98 Setup Instructions. Th en click on the Next button. |
2. Select an Option |
Select the option that says, Select this option if you are accessing the Internet using an Internet service provider or a local area network (LAN) Then click on the Next button. |
3. Set Up Your Internet Connection |
Choose the option that says Connect using my phone line. If you are on a local area network, call technical support. Then click on the Next button. |
4. Dial-Up Connection |
Select the Use an existing dial-up connection option and choose Humboldt Internet from the list. Then click on the Next button. |
5. Dial-up Connection Setting |
Select No. Then click the Next button. |
6. Set Up Your Internet Mail Account |
Click on the Yes button. Then click on the Next button. |
7. Internet Mail Account |
Select the Create a new Internet Mail Account. Then click on the Next button. |
8. Your NameIn the Display name box, type in your first and last name. Then click on the Next button |

9. Internet E-mail AddressOn the E-mail address box, type in your Humboldt Internet e-mail address. For Example, enter janedoe@humboldt1.com. Then click on the Next button. |

10. E-mail Server NamesIn the E-mail Server Names window, do the following:

11. Interent Mail LogonSelect the Log on using option and in the POP account name box, type your Humboldt Internet account name in small case letters. (The Connection Wizard may have entered in the correct account name fo r you. This is your email name all lower case, no spaces, and without @humboldt1.com) Then click on the Next button. |

12. Friendly Name |
Enter the name you would like to call this configuration, such as Humboldt Internet. Then click on the Next button. |
13. Set Up Your Internet News Account |
Click on the Yes button to setup your Internet news account. You can skip this step by clicking on the No button and configure this later. Then click on the Next button. |
14. Your Name |
In the Display Name box, enter your first and last name. Then click on the Next button. |
15. Internet News E-mail Address |
Enter in your Humboldt Internet e-mail address. Then click on the Next button |
16. Internet News Server NameIn the News (NNTP) server box, type: news.humboldt1.com (and be sure to enter it in small case letter, no spaces.) Then click on the Next button. |

17. Friendly Name |
Enter in a Friendly name you would like to call this configuration, such as Humboldt Internet News or news.humboldt1.com. Then click on the Next button. |
18. Set Up Your Internet Directory Service |
Click on the No button. You can change this setting later, if you sign up with an Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory service in the future. Then click on the Next button. |
19. Complete Configuration |
Congratulations! You've successfully created your Outlook Express configuration. Click on the Finish button and try to send yourself a test e-mail message. |
20. Disable Auto-Connect |
To avoid having to re-connect to the Internet after checking your email you can disable the auto-disconnect feature of Outlook Express: Click Tools, Options, and on the Connection tab remove the check mark next to "Hang up after sending and receiving". |
