i. It is very important that
you include commas in the number...one comma represents a 2 second wait. If you find that your computer is dialing
too fast or too slow and isn’t coordinating with what the operator is asking
for then you made to adjust the number of commas in the dial-up number. Adding commas will create a longer pause
between when the computer enters information and subtracting commas will shorten
the pause. ***
ii. Please note that
"pin" is the 10 digit pin number on the back of your calling card and
the 1-800 number differs from card to card and will be found on the back of the
calling card as well
For an MCI calling card
use:
18003250604,,,,,,1,,pin,,,,1,7078228825,,,
For a Sprint calling
card use:
18005972421,,,,,1,,pin,,,,1,7078228825,,,
***(the 1-800 number on your card may be
different so please
double-check this when entering this information)
c. If you will be staying at a hotel and dialing up from their phones you may need to enter a 9, (include the comma) in front of the phone number in order to access an outside line. You can verify with the hotel personnel whether or not this is needed.
******If you are using an
older Macintosh computer that uses “PPP” as the dialer******
We
have noticed that on some of the older Macintosh computers (that use PPP to
connect…which would be OS 7.x or earlier) there seems to be a limited amount of
time that PPP must connect in, and using the above numbers to dial with will
take longer to connect than that allotted amount of time. If it does not connect in this set amount of
time it will give an error message that the connection has timed out (even
though the computer may still be in the middle of dialing with the calling
card). So, to get PPP connected (in
time) we need to shorten the time it takes to dial and connect. To do this we simply remove some of the
commas in the number (1 comma represents a 2 second wait). So:
For an MCI calling card
use: 18003250604,,,1,pin,,17078228825
For a Sprint calling card
use: 18005972421,,,1,pin,17078228825
***(the 1-800 number on your
card may be different so please
double-check this when entering this information)
***Please
note that shortening these numbers may cause problems in making the
connection. When testing this at the
office we could connect 75% of the time with this abbreviated number.
